In 2012, just two years after Journeyman Distillery opened its doors, proprietors Bill and Johanna Welter welcomed their daughter, Islay. In celebration and anticipation, they filled a 53 gallon barrel of Rye whiskey to benefit her future education. Their philanthropic foundation, Islay’s Barrel, is an extension of that concept.

A 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to extend enrichment opportunities to students in Southwest Michigan, Islay’s Barrel raises funds to send local kids to local summer camps. Funds also provide valuable support to nonprofit organizations including Dunes Learning Center and Camp Eberhart, serving kids in our community. Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, we are able to continue to enhance the lives of the students and families in and around Three Oaks!
